Finally ePSXe for Android is back on Google Play. Thank you so much for your support.

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

Yesterday we received a notification from Google about the removal of ePSXe from Google Play because of malicious behavior policy violation. After reviewing the policy we believe this is an error and are trying to work with them to resolve this issue.

Please stay tuned, we will inform you as soon as we get an update.

In any case, we want to thank all users for their support, ePSXe would not be possible without you.

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

ePSXe 2.0.5 for Linux/MacOSX have been released.

You can find it in the downloads section.

The changes are:

- Updated the core to the version 2.0.5
- In linux version fixed some problems with gamepad configuration.
- Local netplay support.

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

ePSXe 2.0.5 for windows have been released.

You can find it in the downloads section.

The changes are:

- Updated the x86 recompiler to use the same recompiler than in the rest of versions (Android, Linux x64, Mac ...). Now it should be easier to fix problems in all versions.
- Ported the local netplay from Android (Experimental). This version is compatible using local netplay with the rest of ePSXe versions from the version 2.0.5 (MacOSX, Linux x86, Linux x64 and Android - version 2.0.6). (Additional info the epsxe docs)
- Ported the GPUCORE threading mode from the Android version. The PC CPUs are faster than Android CPUs, so it will improve less FPS. (This option is better when the CPU is slower).
- Added new threading modes to the Pete OpenGL2 Core Plugin. It includes a basic 2-thread mode, and 2 extra modes adding soft/hardware effects. (It could improve some effects, for example the burning photo on the start of Castlevania)
- In the INPUTCORE plugin, swapped the vibration actuators when using the Xinput mode (to match to real PSX Left/Right). Besides when using a gamepad in digital mode, now you can use the left stick as the dpad.
- Fixed the >2GB PBP roms support. Now it should be able to run the PSX2PSP isos bigger than 2GB as Final Fantasy VIII PSP pack.
- Fixed the cheat codes support when running on the interpreter mode.
- Added a new option in the cheat codes window to download cheat codes from the ePSXe version (Thanks to psxdatacenter.com)
- Fixes to the core which made more games playable or better working. (WING COMMANDER IV, MONKEY HERO)

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

ePSXe 2.0.2 for MacOSX have been released.

7) To run a cdrom, config your cdrom path in $HOME/.epsxe/epsxerc and double click in ePSXe202.
8) For other options, you have to run from a terminal and use command lines.

B) UI version (Gtk3).

Epsxe for MacOSX is a port from the Linux version and the UI is based on GTK+3. Due to MacOSX dependencies system you will need to get the GTK+3 libraries used when it was compiled. So it is recommended to use HomeBrew to install.
1) Install HomeBrew (http://brew.sh)
2) Run from a terminal: brew install http://www.epsxe.com/files/epsxe.rb
3) Now you can run epsxe from a terminal.

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

After a 4 years hiatus, it is finally time for some news about ePSXe's development.

ePSXe 1.8.0 is almost finished and is currently in testing phase. If all goes well we expect to release it in a few weeks. This version will include compressed iso support (PBP), SBI support (such as used by redump.org), updates for multitap, disc change and spu and of course a lot of compatibility related fixes.

We were thinking of different ways to get funds for the development of ePSXe and finally decided to develop an Android port. If you want to support the ePSXe development please buy the Android port in the Google Play Market. It contains the ePSXe core, the internal SPU plugin, a new experimental internal soft GPU plugin and a new 2 players mode for tablets.

We would like to give our thanks to Gladiator, from www.psxdatacenter.com, for the thousands of tests he has done in the last 4 years. Without his help creating a version with high compatibility would have been almost impossible. Many thanks to you and your brother :). We would also want to give our thanks to Shalma who worked on ePSXe Shark, several plugins and plugins "repairs series". He did a wonderful job, some would even consider it "magic", finding then fixing numerous bugs and deserves our most sincere thanks and admiration.

Finally we want to thank you the ePSXe users for supporting our 12 years old child "ePSXe" :)

We have created a twitter account "epsxeteam", where we expect your impressions about the emulator. Please don't use this account to request support and instead use ngemu.com forums.

Regards,
ePSXe Team.

It has been long time since the previous ePSXe status update. During this time the ePSXe development has been on hold and our lives have changed a lot, probably just like yours. In summer 2007 we decided to continue working in ePSXe encouraged by the users support even after 4 years without updates. ePSXe is currently in final testing and we hope to release a new version very soon. We wanted to thank you for your support and show you some screenshots from games that should work better in the next release.

       The ePSXe team

P.S.: We have fixed the donate page.

Today ePSXe is 2 years old so we have decided to make a new release in the next few days.

       The ePSXe team

Hello everybody,
ePSXe has not completly reached the state we would have liked for this release, but we have been very busy lately and improvements are taking longer than we had thought. So we have decided to release a new ePSXe version for windows as well as the first ePSXe version for linux. Especially since it has some interesting fix and the most importantly runs some very frequently requested games like Valkyrie Profile, Parasite Eve 2, Syphon Filter with speech and some others...

Enjoy it,
       The ePSXe team

After a long down time the page is finally back online. Development of ePSXe has slowed down during the summer but is now back to speed. We would have liked to release a new version today but it isn't ready yet. You should expect a release of the new version in the following months when the new features are fully implemented.

We wish you a merry xmas and a happy new year.

Enable snaps on Ubuntu and install ePSXe

Snaps are applications packaged with all their dependencies to run on all popular Linux distributions from a single build. They update automatically and roll back gracefully.

Snaps are discoverable and installable from the Snap Store, an app store with an audience of millions.

Enable snapd

For versions of Ubuntu between 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), as well as Ubuntu flavours that don’t include snap by default, snap can be installed from the Ubuntu Software Centre by searching for snapd.

Alternatively, snapd can be installed from the command line:

Either log out and back in again, or restart your system, to ensure snap’s paths are updated correctly.

Install ePSXe

To install ePSXe, simply use the following command:

Thread: Install ePSXe Playstation Emulator

This guide is outdated and will not be updated anymore.
Try using one of these instead:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=612021
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=550304]

This is a guide to install the freeware Playstation 1 emulator ePSXe in Ubuntu. It is based on this guide, which I found a bit outdated.

ePSXe is made for x86 (common pc) only. If you use powerpc it probably won't work. You might want to try another emulator instead, for example PCSX. An installation guide can be found in this link. Apparently it is possible to run it using an amd64 system, but to do that you need to install some 32 bit libraries, see this post.

Legal note: The installation and use of this emulator requires a Sony Playstation BIOS file. You may not use such a file to play games in a PSX emulator if you do not own a Sony Playstation, Sony PSOne or Sony Playstation 2 console. Owning the BIOS image without owning the actual console is a violation of copyright law. You have been warned.

Installation

First, open a terminal and install the packages that you will need:

Code:

sudo apt-get install unzip libgtk1.2-common libgtk1.2
Get the ePSXe base package:

Code:

wget http://www.epsxe.com/files/epsxe160lin.zip
Make the installation folder by typing:

Code:

sudo mkdir /usr/local/games/epsxe
Since typing this whole path we just added is tedious and clutters up this text, we will store it in a shell variable using the export command. That way, we can call it up by typing $varname, which we'll have to do a few more times...

Code:

export EPSXE='/usr/local/games/epsxe'
Extract the ePSXe package and set up permissions:

Code:

sudo unzip -d $EPSXE ~/epsxe160lin.zip cd $EPSXE sudo chmod 777 cfg sstates snap memcards sudo touch memcards/epsxe000.mcr memcards/epsxe001.mcr .epsxerc sudo chmod 666 memcards/* sudo chmod 666 .epsxerc
If you own a Playstation system, get the PSX Bios _somewhere.around.the.internet_:

Code:

sudo mv ~/SCPH1001.BIN $EPSXE/bios/
You can run the emulator with either software render or hardware acceleration plugin. The latter requires a NVIDIA, ATI, or similar card with working OpenGL drivers. You can install both and use the one that works best for you. The hardware acceleration plugin in this how-to apperantly requires a quite new card (I don't know how new though). If it doesn't work there is an older plugin that uses MesaGL. Look here. The installation is quite similar, but I don't care to include it in this guide.

Install hardware acceleration plugin:

Code:

cd ~ wget http://www.pbernert.com/gpupetexgl208.tar.gz sudo tar xfz ~/gpupetexgl208.tar.gz -C $EPSXE/plugins/ sudo mv $EPSXE/plugins/cfgPeteXGL2 $EPSXE/cfg/ sudo mv $EPSXE/plugins/gpuPeteXGL2.cfg $EPSXE/cfg/ sudo chmod 666 $EPSXE/cfg/gpuPeteXGL2.cfg
Install software render plugin:

Code:

cd ~ wget http://www.pbernert.com/gpupeopssoftx117.tar.gz sudo tar xfz ~/gpupeopssoftx117.tar.gz -C $EPSXE/plugins/ sudo mv $EPSXE/plugins/cfgPeopsSoft $EPSXE/cfg/ sudo mv $EPSXE/plugins/gpuPeopsSoftX.cfg $EPSXE/cfg/ sudo chmod 666 $EPSXE/cfg/gpuPeopsSoftX.cfg
Install audio plugin (uses the OSS sound daemon):

Code:

cd ~ wget http://www.pbernert.com/spupeopsoss109.tar.gz sudo tar xvfz ~/spupeopsoss109.tar.gz -C $EPSXE/plugins/ sudo mv $EPSXE/plugins/cfgPeopsOSS $EPSXE/cfg/
Create a shell script that will start ePSXe:

Code:

sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/epsxe
and paste this:

Code:

#!/bin/bash export EPSXE='/usr/local/games/epsxe' export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$EPSXE cd $EPSXE ./epsxe chmod 666 $EPSXE/cfg/*.cfg $EPSXE/sstates/* \ $EPSXE/memcards/*.mcr $EPSXE/snap/* 2>/dev/null
Save it and change permissions for the new file:

Code:

sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/epsxe
You can now start by typing "epsxe" in the terminal (without "").

Configuration

  • In the menu, open "Config -> BIOS", and set it to /usr/local/games/epsxe/bios/SCPH1001.BIN, click OK.

  • Open "Config -> Video", and select either "Pete's XGL2 Driver 2.8" or "P.E.Op.S. Softx Driver 1.17". Click configure, then OK to write a config file. Verify that it is working by clicking the Test button, then OK.

  • In "Config -> Sound" select "P.E.Op.S. OSS Audio Driver", Configure, then OK. Verify that it is working by clicking the Test button, then OK.

  • In Config -> CDROM, set the path to your CD/DVD-ROM. In most cases it should be /dev/cdrom but in my case /dev/hdc. You can check your path by typing "mount |grep cd" in a console.

  • In Config -> Game Pad -> Pad 1 menu, you can set up the controls. If you want to use a real PSX Joypad to play with, you have to search for a advices elsewhere, since I don't have one that I can use with my computer or any experience using them in Linux. There is a guide in the original howto, referred to in the beginning of this text, but as said, I haven't tried it.

Now you should be all set. If you want to use an original PSX CD-ROM, insert it and select "File -> Run CDROM" It might take a while for the game to load, so be patient. You can also load backup ISO:s from your hard disk with "File -> Run ISO. When you are running your game you can press Esc any time to exit, save/load game states, or change discs. To get back, select Run -> Continue.

Troubleshooting
  • Problems with segmentation faults using PeteXGL2 plugin, See this reply.
    e.g:

Code:

* Init gpu[0][libgpuPeteXGL2.so.2.0.8] /usr/local/bin/epsxe: line 6: 25248 Segmentation fault ./epsxe
  • Problems with Chrono Cross and possibly others might be solved by using an older version of Epsxe. See here.

If you have other problems with plugins that you can't solve by reading the discussions/replies in this thread, check out Pete’s Domain and try using some of the other plugins not covered by this guide.

Have fun, and if you run into problems, post here and hopefully you will get help...

My female half was passionate about real sex. I wanted to be seen as a woman and not just seen, but really fucked. But in life everything was much more complicated and I did not see an opportunity to translate my fantasies into reality. But as the saying goes, how much the string does not twist, but the tip will be.

So it is in my case.
