The Size of a MacBook
By Dan Wonder

For business professionals who are on the go, owning a laptop that is relatively easy to carry around is ideal. The MacBook notebook computers from Apple are just such machines. As of 2013, Apple offers three versions of the MacBook. There’s the upper-level MacBook Pro, an enhanced-screen-resolution version called MacBook Pro with Retina Display and the ultraportable and thin MacBook Air.
Background
The MacBook Pro was the first of the MacBook notebooks that Apple released. It made its debut in January 2006. Two years later, Apple began manufacturing a MacBook that combined the performance of the brand with greater portability. Called the MacBook Air, the computer marketed as the “World’s Thinnest Notebook” was available for sale in January 2008. Apple began offering the MacBook Pro with Retina Display in 2012.
MacBook Pro
Apple manufactures the MacBook Pro as a 13-inch or 15-inch laptop, with diagonal measurements of 13.3 inches and 15.4 inches, respectively. They have a height of 0.95 inches. The width and depth of the 13-inch version are 12.78 inches and 8.94 inches, respectively. The 15-inch MacBook Pro measures 14.35 inches in width and 9.82 inches in depth. The weight of the MacBook Pro laptops is 4.5 pounds for the 13-inch model and 5.6 pounds for the 15-inch model.
MacBook Pro With Retina Display
The MacBook Pro with Retina Display is available as a 13-inch or 15-inch notebook, with the same diagonal screen measurements as the standard version. Apart from that, though, the Retina Display model is smaller and lighter than the standard MacBook Pro. The 13-inch laptop is 12.35 inches wide, 8.62 inches deep and 0.75 inches high. The 15-inch model is 14.13 inches wide, 9.73 inches deep and 0.71 inches high. The 13-inch model weighs 3.57 pounds, while the 15-inch model weighs 4.46 pounds.
MacBook Air
Apple designs the MacBook Air as a smaller and lighter version of the MacBook Pro lineup. It is available as an 11-inch or 13-inch notebook, with diagonal measurements of 11.6 inches and 13.3 inches, respectively. The MacBook Air has a height of 0.68 inches. The 11-inch version is 11.8 inches wide and 7.56 inches deep, while the 13-inch version is 12.8 inches wide and 8.94 inches deep. The 11-inch version weighs 2.38 pounds and the 13-inch version weighs 2.96 pounds.

The MacBook family is a line of laptop computers designed and manufactured by Apple Inc. Originally referring to Apple’s earlier polycarbonate MacBook notebook computer that was sold from 2006-2012, the current family of MacBooks feature a unibody aluminum construction with black plastic keyboard. Available with multiple variations of size and performance, Apple’s MacBook line consists of the entry level MacBook Air, the utility MacBook, and the professional MacBook Pro.
Apple’s MacBook family comes in three specific types that range in power and size from the MacBook Air, to the MacBook, and the MacBook Pro.
Apple MacBooks do not have touchscreen capabilities. Though Apple has been pressured to consider touchscreen inclusion they have described touchscreen PCs as being fatiguing.
The first portable computer designed by Apple was the Macintosh Portable that was sold from 1989 to 1991.
