Pink farmhouse living room

Pink farmhouse living room DEFAULT

Pink is a color that is perpetually associated with femininity, much like blue tends to become the color of all things masculine in the world of interior design. Some believe that this stereotyping is just one big marketing gimmick, others point to growing scientific evidence that says women are naturally programmed to love redder shades of blue while men love those in the green-blue spectrum. No matter which approach you take to the issue, pink is generally linked with all things delicate and wonderful. But it is not just a color for the feminine bedroom or girls’ nursery, as we take a look today at 20 fabulous pink living rooms.

While pink is not neutral in any sense of the word, it has tremendous versatility when it comes to combining with other colors ranging from blue and green to red and yellow. The countless shades of pink also make this a lot easier and allow you to use it in living rooms of varied styles and themes. Perpetually popular but often relegated to bedrooms, it is time to bring pink into the living room.

Shades of Pink

From shades of pink that gravitate more towards the purple end of the color spectrum to those that are light enough to blend in with some yellowish hues, pink comes in so many different versions that it leaves you spellbound. While the popular packaging in media is all about shades that are close to one single hue, explore the many different options carefully before you settle on one. The likes of Coral crush and pastel pink can replace white in the living and create a backdrop that is sufficiently neutral and yet engaging and glamorous. Hotter hues like Pink Corsage are best used in moderation with a dash of class!

The Right Décor

Paint is definitely not the only option when it comes to giving your living room a colorful makeover. Décor in pink for the living room can give your home a fun and unexpected twist while keeping the backdrop distinctly neutral. Plush rugs and carpets are often the best way to start off this pinkish makeover, as they tend to create the biggest visual impact. Follow this up with accent pillows in matching shades of pink, a few lovely throws elegantly placed around the living room and artwork with hints of pink brilliance to complete the look.

If you can add a couch, club chairs or lamps shades in pink, then that would definitely be an added bonus. Remember that we are not just using pink as an accent hue here but committing to it fully, without actually painting the walls. When done, the living room should have a distinct and palpable pinkish glow.

Combine & Contrast

The first living room in this section seems to showcase the Rose Quartz & Serenity a combination that Pantone has picked as its Color the Year 2016. Even if you are not very happy with that particular blend, pink can be combined easily with green, yellow, blue or even shades of orange to create a snazzy and eclectic living space. As you start using more and more color, it is best to pick lighter shades with muted finishes and to ensure that there is a style that links them all together. Otherwise things can get pretty chaotic and fast.

Exciting Accents

If you are not happy with committing to pink right away, then as always, we suggest you take the safe route of lovely pink accents. This has all the advantages that come with accent additions – the safety of not committing fully to a color scheme, an easy enough switch of the color scheme as trends change, and of course, an ability to mix and match varied colors. The accent pink wall is a safe starting point, but you can also choose other exciting options like a colorful pink couch, drapes in pink or even simpler, less expensive additions like vases and side tables.

Join in this summer home tour for beautiful and simple summer living room decorating ideas.  Easy ways to incorporate some summer decor in your home without spending a lot of time or money.

Summer Decorating

There’s just a little over a week left until summer officially arrives and I’ve been working on adding a few summer touches in our home.  I don’t make a lot of changes between spring and summer {other than working on our backyard patio!}, but it’s always nice to add a pops of summer.  For me, summer decor is all about simplifying things and bringing a little of the outdoor beauty in.  It doesn’t have to take much time or effort – just a few simple touches to celebrate the season!

Wood blanket ladder with summer vignette.

This week I’m going to be joining in a couple of summer home tours {check back tomorrow for our summer kitchen!} to share our summer home with you. Up first, is our summer living room as part of Krista’s Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series. You can find a new collection of summer home tours every day this week over at The Happy Housie, so be sure to stop by for a ton of beautiful summer decor inspiration!  I hope you enjoy it!

Our Living Room

Our living room/family room is right off of our open kitchen and one of the main rooms that we hang out in. Despite it being one of our most used rooms, it’s probably the room that’s actually had the least amount of updates too.  I started a little mini-makeover about five years ago and updated the fireplace and mantel.  I also took down our drapes and put in some nice chunky molding around the windows.  And that’s pretty much where the big updates end.

Farmhouse style family room with an open floor plan.

We’ve had all of the furniture since we moved in almost 18 years ago.  That GIANT television was an exciting purchase way back in the day, but I’ve been begging my husband to let me get rid of it for years now. It’s actually the main reason that we can’t come to any decisions about a new layout and furniture choices.  It’s really hard to design a room around that thing!  I’d also love to close in the two alcoves just above the fireplace – maybe some shiplap going right across, and place a flat screen up there.  Unfortunately, that’s also been nixed by my hubby.

Modern farmhouse style open living room.

Anyways, if you have any ideas of what furniture and layouts you think would work best, I’d love to hear them!  I think I’ve just been staring at the space for so long that I can’t make any kind of decision.  Hopefully, we’lll have some budget and inspiration to move forward on a little makeover within the next year or two, but for now, I’m just trying to keep things looking modern with some simple decor touches.

Simple Summer Living Room Decorating Ideas

I like to give our main rooms a little refresh each season and switch around a few of the decor items.  I’ll usually give the room a deep cleaning while I’m doing it, so it really doesn’t really take a lot of extra time.  Even if you don’t necessarily decorate for summer, you can still incorporate a few of these ideas for a little mini room makeover.  So here are my favorite tips for simple summer living room decorating…

Switch up the throw cushions

Changing your throw pillows is one of the easiest and quickest ways to change things up in a room.  If you can, stick with just purchasing new pillow covers {and not the whole pillow} to make storage easier and cut down on costs.  In the summer, look for lighter fabrics and your favorite colors to really add some of your personality to the room. You don’t even need a lot of pillows – just a few can really make an impact!

Add some fresh flowers

Unfortunately, it might not always be possible to have fresh flowers around, but summer is the best time of year to either “shop your yard” or get some great flower deals at the grocery store.  We just finished our lilac season and I was spoiled for a couple of weeks with fresh blooms to pick from the yard.  I was sad to see them go, but thankfully, lilac season is followed with another one of my favorite flowers – peonies!  Even some fresh greenery in a small jar or vase can add some life to the room.

Pretty farmhouse style family room with pink peonies.

Use faux greenery or stems

When fresh flowers and greenery aren’t available, there are some beautiful faux items that look almost as good. {too bad they didn’t smell the same!}  I especially like to tuck in little sprigs of faux greenery into vignettes or baskets for just a little pop of color. {P.S. Can you spot one of our dogs in the photo below?  She’s in one of her favorite spots.}

Farmhouse style family room with an open floor plan.

If you want to keep things simple, faux stems are perfect for that with no watering or maintenance required. And since my watering can doesn’t need to be used for watering, it can be dressed up too!

Have Fun with Chalkboards

I’m definitely not the best artist around, but I love playing around with chalkboards and have quite a few of them around the house.  If you like changing things up each season, they’re a great way to do that without having extra items to store or move around.  Just wipe them clear and start fresh with a new seasonal image or saying. You can find all of my chalkboard tips and tricks HERE {including the best way to clean them!}

Flower market chalkboard art.

Summer chalkboard art with mason jar.

Change up the area rug.

This one is obviously not something you’d do every season, but if your room needs a boost, a new area can really transform the space.  Our dog actually chewed a couple of great big holes in our last area rug, so we did need to get a new one.  I was a little smarter with this one and chose a low pile option that she can’t really chew. It also has a lot of color variations that is awesome for covering up any little stains, spills, or discolorations that occur with kids and pets.  I would have liked to have purchased a slightly bigger rug, but the next size up was out of the budget.  It’s a lot better than a rug with holes in it though!

Decorate a tray

Using a tray for a simple summer vignette is a pretty way to add some seasonal decor without needing a lot of items. Having a small, contained space keeps everything looking neat and tidy and it can easily be moved if needed.

I hope you enjoyed the tour and find the tips helpful. If you’re just joining me for the first time on the blog hop, I’m so glad you were able to drop in.  I’d love for you to follow along. Hopefully, we’ll meet again!

So, if you’re going that route in your home redesign, these are the shades you need to be dipping your corners in.

1. Muted Navy

And that’s highlighted so beautifully by the muted, navy wall which adds stunning contrast to the cream tones and natural lighting surrounding it.

2. Washed Taupe

A washed taupe is a natural tone to take hold of when thinking about farmhouse styling. This shot from Home Lovr is a beautiful example of a rustically-inclined room that’s fully equipped for both function and fashion. And that monochromatic look creates a perfectly chic finish as well.

3. Charcoal

Charcoal is a color that works no matter what style you’ve decided to try and create. Even in this farmhouse-contemporary space, that charcoal provides a strong foundation, contrast, and interest to its lower stylings. Check more spaces like this out over at Coco Cozy.

4. Creamy White

Creamy whites bold well with the country-inspired genre as well. We see this room here from Home BNC with both farmhouse and cottage vibes looking delicate and welcoming while being enveloped in the soft natural shade. It’s versatile and easy to decorate behind.

5. Blush Pink

Blush pink will play well with natural wood textures and furniture pieces. Just look at this little peek from My Scandinavian Home for inspiration. You can easily create a farmhouse-inspired space but with a feminine vibe attached.

6. Butter Yellow

Butter yellows will do the trick too. They mesh well with creamy whites and other neutrals that are so closely associated to this style theme. Just look at this gorgeous space from Little Vintage Nest! Not everything has to be full, farmhouse interior design can be uplifting and bright as well.

7. Mauve

Pinterest always has a host of great inspiration and that goes double when it comes to finding paint colors that inspire us. This mauve nook got our wheels churning. How gorgeous would a bout of this shade be inside a bedroom or home office that rocks the farmhouse trend?

8. Subtle Silver

Silver wall in farmhouse style home

Taryn Whiteaker went with a subtle silver shade to highlight her living room and we’re in love. Farmhouse quality is motivated by neutrals and this one will keep everything fit and in its place. Create a solid foundation by going with something similar.

9. Soft Wheat

Wheat wall color in farmhouse home

Home BNC displayed this soft wheat shade and we thought it felt quite well inside a kitchen – or even the hallways of the house. It’s a more muted tone that’s offset nicely by other browns and taupe colors. If you want traditional and calm, then this is the color to go for.

10. Distressed Beige

Beige wall color farmhouse play room

Then again if you want something a bit brightening, going with a lighter beige tone may be the perfect way to get your farmhouse-inspired play room to pop. We found this beauty thanks to our friends at Homedit. It’s just another neutral that plays well with varying textures.

11. Mink

Maybe you’re on the market for something a bit deeper. If so, this deep mink tone really looks beautiful in the bathroom. Find more inspiration like this one by visiting The Unique Nest.

12. Midnight Black

Black is a classic and works well with all kinds of style genres – including this one. But what we love so much about this inspiration from Our Vintage Home Love is that it’s actually a chalkboard wall. And that ideas fits even more nicely into a farmhouse vision, don’t you think?

13. Matte Gold
